The Short Long Road Trip
My daughter took a buyout from the USDA recently and needed a ride back home, from Pullman, Washington to Delmar, Maryland. I picked up my rental truck at 12:30 p.m. (Eastern) on a Wednesday and pulled in front of her house at 5:30 p.m. Friday (Pacific).
She was packed, so we made a quick turnaround and pulled in front of my home by 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Adventures were had and I’m still compiling my notes and worrying whether jet lag comes in waves if you’ve not been in a jet. I feel like it doesn’t. By breaking my days into time driving and time not driving, I kept the clock from becoming a factor.
Some days I had work to do and there were meetings and such, but I accounted for them. Every hour I could steal from the next day’s drive was an extra hour I could sleep, in a way.
All that to say that I believe I’ve righted myself and have a full docket for the coming weeks. I’ll have the next episode of Object History out Tuesday. If you haven’t heard the first two, they’re short and can be found here.
Also: My daughter has two cats. They’ve integrated nicely but traveling cross-country with cats isn’t nearly as fun as they make it out to be on television.
Keep the Faith,
Tony

Last time I mentioned that “slew” had a very specific sense. It also has a wider sense more consistent with the way we tend to use it. You may continue using “slew” as before thanks to the person who tracked down and shared a more complete definition.
Your response emails are absolutely fantastic and welcome. I know lots of you would prefer not to comment, but if you want to say something to me and keep your name out of it, that’s fine, too,
